Symposium Exploring Turkish Classical Music and Ottoman Society

Dr. Timuçin Çevikoğlu will present an afternoon symposium exploring aspects of Turkish classical music and musicians in Ottoman society, situated at the rich nexus of intersecting cultures, empire, and religious mysticism, and discussing the situation of this rich musical tradition in contemporary Turkey.
The campus event is scheduled for Tuesday, November 19 at 3:30-5:00 PM at the Department of Near Eastern Languages & Civilization in Denny Hall on the UW Seattle campus.
